M&S Royal engagement ring replica is a best-seller

M&S Royal engagement ring replica is a best-seller

Marks & Spencer’s copy of Kate Middleton’s engagement ring has become the retailer’s best-selling piece of jewellery.

M&S Ring
While the Duchess of Cambridge’s status as a “style icon” remains the subject of fierce personal opinion, there’s no denying her trendsetting capabilities. Since announcing her engagement to Prince William last November, Kate’s every outfit has been the subject of intense scrutiny – and a dozen cheap knock-offs. It might come with little surprise, then, that Marks & Spencer’s replica of her engagement ring has become the retailer’s bestselling piece of jewellery to date.

Kate’s fashion hits and misses

Since it went on sale in March, M&S have sold around 200 of its “Platinum Plated Royal Ring” every week. And judging by the product’s feedback online, the £18 design, described by the retailer as a “gorgeous platinum-plated ring, set with dazzling diamanté” has captured the imagination of the public.

Marks & Spencer’s £18 Platinum Plated Royal Ring

“So many people have commented on it. The quality is very good and it is a very good copy of the royal ring,” reads one review, while another adds: “This ring is everything it says it is: stylish, classy, looks like the real thing, I loved it.”

Kate Crossey, design manager for footwear and accessories at M&S said: “Since the royal wedding, we’ve found that classic, vintage style pieces have become increasingly popular.” Crossey added: “Despite the big day being over, customers seem to be holding on to the Royal trend as we continue to see sales grow.”

Kate’s ring: A ring that sparkles with significance

Fellow high-street retailer Debenhams reported a similar trend back in April, as its £6 replica of the Duchess’s ring, which originally belonged to the late Diana, Princess of Wales, became its fastest-ever selling piece of jewellery.

While the Duchess’s ring is said to be worth millions, fans of it can currently take advantage of Marks & Spencer’s 25 per cent off jewellery promotion, making the royal knock-off a bargainous £13.50.

Buckley Jewellery shines at the 2011 Airline Retail Awards

No Comments Home, Jewellery News

Buckley Jewellery has clinched the ‘Best Inflight Product’ title for its Russian Trio Set at the 2011 Airline Retail Awards last week, held as part of the Airline Retail Conference (ARC) in London.

The UK-based jewellery company was also nominated in the ‘Most Promising Inflight Supplier’ category, which was voted for online by delegates attending ARC in the run-up to the conference.

The ‘Best Inflight Product’ award was voted for based on nominations received during the two-day event.

In related news, Singapore Airlines (through DFASS) listed the Russian Trio Set onboard prior to ARC.

Buckley Jewellery Sales & Marketing Director Neil Thompson commented: “It was an honour – and also humbling – to be nominated for two awards by our customers. To then go on and win one is just fantastic. We recognise that we’ve only been in travel retail for a short time and we are still a relatively unknown brand for airlines and their concessionaires. We are therefore very grateful for the confidence they have shown in us by giving us the opportunity to list our designs with them. It is valuable recognition of the Buckley brand and our ability to deliver the best possible products and service as an inflight partner.

“In winning this accolade it brings with it the obligation to develop the next ‘Product of the Year’ and, as a design-led business, it’s a challenge we relish. With this in mind, we will be launching a new premium brand/range at Cannes. This will be an exquisite silver collection with a distinctive brand icon and we look forward to showing it to all of our customers at the TFWA World Exhibition.”

WHEN Angelina Jolie stepped on to the red carpet for the premiere of Brad Pitt’s new film, Tree of Life, during the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, it wasn’t her chocolate silk Atelier Versace gown that caught the eye. Created in collaboration with Robert Procop Exceptional Jewels, the proceeds from the Style of Jolie collection will benefit children in need around the world via Angelina’s charity, the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict. Vivienne Westwood wins poll for Greatest British Fashion Designer

No Comments Jewellery News

Vivienne Westwood has won Greenall’s Greatest British Fashion Designer after more than 3,000 people voted in the poll, reported Vogue UK.

Westwood got 24% of the votes, with Alexander McQueen coming in second place with 10%. The designer, who recently opened a Los Angeles flagship, has also shared her views on New York, saying:

“I don’t actually like New York. New York people are a bit stuck up and self important, and think that just the fact that they live in New York makes them better than anybody else. Sometimes there, you feel trapped by the concrete, and for me that means being trapped by the myth of Superman and American foreign policy and all these dreadful things that have done so much harm in the world. There’s just so much pressure there; it’s not nice.”

Westwood also upset Fox News when she spoke of climate change at the opening of her L.A. store, reported Huffington Post: “I try to use my voice to tell people of the danger of climate change, we are an endangered species. Within one generation, Los Angeles will be uninhabitable if people don’t do something about it,” the designer said.

Fox News were quick to find experts such as Myron Ebell, Director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the Competitive Enterprise Institute in Washington D.C., who replied, “The claims of global warming catastrophe, they are mostly made up.”
